Julie and Adam’s wedding was held on a perfect Fall day in early November at Opal 28. Even though November weddings in PDX are a little risky due to rain, you also might capture some of the most beautiful colors that Fall has to offer.

The B&G spent the day getting ready up stairs in our vintage apartments. The groomsmen rented Unit #2 & the bridesmaids occupied Unit #4. We love getting to see these special moments before the wedding begins.

We absolutely LOVED this macrame backdrop by Sea of Roses. This is their second macrame installation at Opal 28 & we always love to what they do with our cement wall!

The first look was done on the Opal 28 patio. Then Julie & Adam spent some time outside with the beautiful orange & yellow Fall scenery. We loved that they utilized pumpkins as accents on the patio!

With a guest count of 80 people, Julie & Adam’s wedding was one of our larger guest counts for an indoor ceremony. With about 50 seated, the remaining 30 guests stood in the back.

Can you even believe this was NOVEMBER 3RD? Such a beautiful day (and lots of beautiful ladies)!

Our neighbors at Dream Cakes made a statement with this three-tier cake with succulent accents.

We wish we looked this cute on the way home after a long day of partying! Julie & Adam’s wedding was truly one for the books: A beautiful November fall day with great people, food & a dance party to top it off!

Gotta Get that Fitness

The only way to be a true party starter is to live a well balanced life.  Sure, late nights enjoying locally distilled spirits, amazing wines and the best beers is fun  it can also lead to a nasty headache.  Our best advice....keep exercising and staying hydrated.

Luckily, Opal 28 is now neighbors with MOBCYCLE - the only Northeast Portland cycling studio.  We love to skip outta the office for a quick 45 minute sweat sesh, or shall I say dance party on a bike.  The music is loud, the instructors are motivating and the fitness is real.  Lucky you, will get a special treat when you attend the 3rd Birthday Bash on Friday.  Check out MOBCYCLE for more details and class schedule.

Grind Musubi...what's that?

About 5 months ago the Opal kitchen was the test kitchen for the just launched, super delicious, locally owned GRIND MUSUBI, located at 21st and Division. Beer is Flowing

As we all know, Portland has its selection of breweries and accessibility to craft beers of all varieties. We love all things beer, Portland, and especially Kerns (our little NE neighborhood). 

The Opal 28 bar keeps it's wares stocked with local flavors. On tap we carry our neighbor down 28th street, Coalition Brewery! SpaceFruit IPA is a favorite among all Opal event guests. We have also been featuring the Serendipity Session Ale, a seasonal from Coalition. It was light & fruity and a great refresher during the summer heat. The Opal 28, 3rd birthday party will symbolize the switch from the summer time Serendipity Session Ale to a more wintery King Kitty Red Ale (which pairs perfectly with a gourmet cheese board!). 

Remember to stop by our party on the 28th and meet Coalition Head Brewer, Elan! Come see & taste why we love Coalition Brewery. If you can't get enough of Coalition, visit them at their Brewery on 28th & Ankeny Street!

Our Old Building Got a New Mural

Thanks to the talents of Meg, Zoe and Chloe the north side of Opal 28 got a festive urban party painted on the wall.  What was a landing pad for graffiti is now a healthy dose of original street art making our neighborhood even more eclectic. Next time you are in the neighborhood be sure to stop and take a look at the mural on the north side of the building. We are so happy to be contributing the community of Portland street art.

Smile, Snap, Smirk Photobooth

ANNOUNCEMENT!  Smirk Photbooth will be at our Birthday Bash on Oct. 28th! If you haven't heard about Smirk yet, you are definitely missing out. Photo Booths are such a great addition to any birthday, anniversary, wedding or corporate event. Photo Booths always seem to become the center of the party, and the physical takeaway of a cute photo strip acts as a personalized party favor. We especially love Smirk Photbooth and owner & founder, Skylor, because she creates amazing specialty props & custom backdrops for your event. We love the fact that Smirk Photbooths are open air, which means there is no little box to squeeze into. You can pile as many friends into a picture as you can!

We met Skylor & Smirk when she decided to host her launch party at Opal 28 this summer. As soon as we saw her setup & props, we knew we would be seeing her again soon! Every Party Needs Dessert!

With so many delicious dessert purveyors in Portland it's hard to choose our fav. After being the host to a stylized wedding shoot in the spring of 2014 we met Chanelle Sabo (now Walters), she is a newlywed. Since then, she has been our go to for party and wedding desserts. Our partnership with Lux Sucre has us craving her salted fudge-y peppermint brownies (just in time for the holiday season), we can’t live without her apple crumble bars and we are in awe of her beautiful cake and cookie artistry. We asked owner and pastry Chef, Chanelle, a couple questions:

Learning the tips and tricks to make the 2017 wedding season our best yet!

We arrived in Vegas on Monday morning and headed straight for the Wedding MBA. We are here amidst all the pros from Wedding Wire, The Knot, as well as top venues, photographers, rental companies, and other event professionals. We even ran into some of our PDX friends from Bridal Bliss and Powers Studio!

We have heard some amazing speakers and are more inspired than ever to host the best weddings and parties in Portland. Some of the most prominent topics have been: social media, understanding the millennial generation, effective communication strategies & 2017 wedding trends (post coming soon - stay tuned!).

• What was the most memorable part of your 40th at Opal 28?  Moving from an intimate, delicious dinner in the Reserve Room with 12 of my closest girlfriends into an epic dance party in the main room was amazing!  I got to do everything I wanted to do for my 40th birthday all at one address!  
• Where did you spend the most time during your celebration?  I don't think I ever left the dance floor!  Apparently my friends that weren't on the dance floor with me had a rockin time on the patio.

October is Opal 28’s Favorite Month

It’s the start to our favorite month!  Why is October our favorite? As if we need a reason, we love the morning dew, Autumn chill, vibrant fall colors and the symbolic namesake of the October birthstone, the opal.  There are multiple birthdays to celebrate this month, so, all month long we will be posting reasons to PAR-TAY and look for hints to the grand prize that will be given away the night of our 3rd birthday on 10.28.16.  We hope you will join us.  RSVP HERE

Our Namesake Story: The opal is the October birthstone and we are located on 28th Avenue. Owner, Margot Feves’ treasured Grandma Sadie was born on October 28th. In the 60’s the retail space that is now the Main Room was a grocery store. It’s possible that Gram Sadie once did her grocery shopping at this very location!
